F1 Starts Localized Help When in English Mode of Visual Basic

ID: Q120726

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c

SYMPTOMS

Some localized versions of Microsoft Excel have the option to switch to the English version of Visual Basic, Applications Edition. However, if you switch to this English version of Visual Basic, and you attempt to access Visual Basic Help by selecting a keyword in the module and pressing F1, the localized version of Help is accessed, rather than the English version of Help.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the localized version of Microsoft Excel does not include the English version of VBA_XL.HLP, the Visual Basic Help file.

RESOLUTION

The English version of Visual Basic Help is now available over the online services in the VBAXLHLP.EXE file. VBAXLHLP.EXE is a compressed, self- extracting file. After you download VBAXLHLP.EXE, run it to extract the file(s) it contains.

This file is being made available for the convenience of developers of international Visual Basic, Applications Edition, programs.
