ID: Q122069

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, you cannot use shortcut keys to cut, copy, or paste information in the cell reference boxes in the Macro, Cell Note, Define Name, or Find dialog boxes.

CAUSE

The shortcut key equivalents for choosing Cut, Copy, or Paste from the Edit menu, COMMAND+X, COMMAND+C, and COMMAND+V respectively, are disabled and do not work in the following dialog boxes:

  • The Macro Name/Reference box in the Macro

  • The Cell box in the Cell Note

  • The Refers To box in the Define Name

Note that this is not a problem in Microsoft Excel for Windows.

WORKAROUND

To cut, copy, or paste information in these cell reference boxes, you can choose the respective commands from the Edit menu.

Note that if you use the Copy or Cut commands to copy or cut data in these cell reference boxes, you cannot paste the data to a worksheet.

You receive the following error message when you attempt to paste the data to a worksheet:

Cannot paste data
