XL5: TRANS.EXE Not Installed with Custom or Complete Install

SUMMARY

The Macro Translation Assistant, TRANS.EXE, and its support files, TRANSMP.XLM and TRANS123.XLM, are not installed when you select the Complete or Custom installation option in the versions of Microsoft Excel mentioned above. The Macro Translation Assistant is a utility that helps you translate Lotus 1-2-3 macros and Microsoft Multiplan macros to Microsoft Excel 4.0 macros.

NOTE: TRANS.EXE is not available in Microsoft Excel versions 5.0c and later.

The TRANS.EXE program is not installed automatically when you perform a complete installation of Microsoft Excel. This is by design in the versions of Microsoft Excel mentioned above. If you are updating from Microsoft Excel version 4.0 for Windows, TRANS.EXE should be located in the Microsoft Excel 4.0 directory. If you are not updating from version 4.0, do the following to install TRANS.EXE from Microsoft Excel 5.0 Setup:

Run the Microsoft Excel Setup program located in the Microsoft Excel program group.

Choose the Add/Remove button.

Select Tools from the Options list and choose Change.

Select the Macro Translation Assistant and the 1-2-3 CNF Converter and choose the OK button.

Choose Continue.

Insert the Microsoft Excel version 5.0 Disk 1 into the floppy disk drive and choose OK.

Setup will install all of the necessary components to your system.
