XL5: Cell Contents Not Visible in Quattro Pro File

ID: Q125400

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

Spreadsheets created in some versions of Quattro Pro may appear to be blank when you open them in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for Windows. Although the Microsoft Excel worksheet appears to be blank, you will be able to see the contents of each cell in the formula bar.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you are using a 16-color video driver. Quattro Pro uses the number 17 font color of a 256 color palette. If you open this file in Microsoft Excel on a computer using a 16 color video driver, Microsoft Excel will be unable to display the font.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow the steps below:

  1. From the Format menu, choose Style.

  2. Choose Modify, and then select the Font tab.

The color displayed should be light blue.

  3. Choose the arrow next to the color box, and select Automatic from the color palette.

If you are still unable to see the text in the worksheet, follow steps 1-3 and select the black square from the color palette.
