SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel 5.0, when you save a file in the Microsoft Excel Workbook file format on a Macintosh that has 32-bit addressing turned on, your computer may stop responding, or Microsoft Excel may close unexpectedly. CAUSE
This behavior occurs if you entered a name that has 31 characters in the
User Name box on the General tab of the Options dialog box, and the Prompt
For Summary Info check box is selected. For example, if you enter the name
"This is an extra loooooong name" in the User Name box, and you select the
Prompt for Summary Info check box, this problem occurs when you save your
workbook if 32-bit addressing is turned on. WORKAROUNDSTo avoid this problem, use either of the following methods:Method 1Enter a user name that has fewer than 31 characters. To change your user name, do the following:
