XL: Using "Fit To" Option Does Not Increase Scale to Fill Page

ID: Q142590

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 5.0, 5.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for the Power Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a

SYMPTOMS

In the Page Setup dialog box, if the specified print area is less than one page, and if you select the Fit To option, the page is printed at 100-percent scale. In other words, Microsoft Excel does not adjust the scale of a print range greater than 100 percent to fill an entire page.

WORKAROUND

To fill an entire page with a specified print area that is smaller than a single printed page, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

In the Page Setup dialog box, click Adjust To, and select a scale that is greater than 100 percent. This method does not insure that the print range stays on one page, however.

Method 2

In Page Setup, select Fit To, and then manually size the rows and columns within the print range to fill the page. (You can view the sheet in print preview to see if the print range fills the page).
