ID: Q155010

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Query for Windows 95, version 2.0

SYMPTOMS

When you add a table to the table pane in Microsoft Query, the computer may appear to stop responding (hang), and the "busy" mouse pointer, or hour glass, appears on the screen.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

  • You are using the Microsoft Excel Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver to access data from Microsoft Query.

  • -and-

  • There are 2000 or more records (rows) in the table.

NOTE: If you continue waiting, Microsoft Query adds the table and displays the table in the table pane. The time Microsoft Query takes to perform this action may vary.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, save the Microsoft Excel file in an alternative file format and use the corresponding ODBC driver. For example, save the file in the dBase III or IV (.dbf), Text (.txt), or CSV (.csv), formats.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post more information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
