XL98: Typed Text Appears Slowly or Is Garbled on a Power Macintosh Computer

SYMPTOMS

When you type data in a cell, the characters appear very slowly. The text may also appear truncated or garbled.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

• You are using a Power Macintosh computer.

• You format a cell with a TrueType font, and then make the text bold.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, apply the bold format after you type the text in the cell.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

When you run Microsoft Excel on a Power Macintosh, format a cell with a TrueType font, and then bold the cell, text you type in the cell appears very slowly. This problem occurs only on the Power Macintosh platform because of the way in which Excel works with the system Memory Manager library.
