XL98: Default File Location Reset to Folder One Level Higher Than the Folder You Specifie

SYMPTOMS

When you set the default file location (the working directory), the path may become truncated; consequently, the default file location is set to the folder that is one level above the folder you specified.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

• You click Preferences on the Tools menu and click the General tab.

• In the Default File Location box, you add an extra path separator, a colon, to the end of the path, for example:

  "Macintosh HD:Microsoft Office 98:Office::"

  Notice the two colons at the end of the path.

• You click OK, click Preferences on the Tools menu, and then click the General tab.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use only one colon at the end of the path when you set the default file location.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
