XL98: Row Headings Are Blue After You Move a Filtered List

ID: Q177530

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you filter a list and then move the cells that contain the data you filtered, the row headings for the cells you moved appear in a blue font (as if you filtered the moved cells). This problem occurs even though Microsoft Excel no longer uses the filter criteria.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

  • You use the Autofilter command to filter a list in place.

  • -and-

  • You move the list you filtered by using a drag-and-drop operation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, remove the filter criterion before you move the list. This workaround does not affect the results of the data you are moving; the filter criterion is normally lost once you move the data.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Row headings are the numbers to the left of the first column. The font color of these numbers is blue when you filter a list in place.
