CAUSEThese problems may occur if you select an entire worksheet (65,536 rows by 256 columns), click AutoFormat on the Format menu, select a format, and then click OK. WORKAROUNDTo prevent these problems from occurring, make sure that you select only the specific range that you want to format before you click AutoFormat on the Format menu. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. In Microsoft Excel, you can use the AutoFormat feature to apply a
predesigned combination of formats to a range of cells. A number of
automatic formats are available. Each one uses a complex set of "rules" to
determine what formats to apply to each cell in the specified range.
