XL98: How to View a Sample Chart with the Keyboard

SYMPTOMS

When you use the keyboard shortcut, COMMAND+V, to view a sample chart in step 1 of the Chart Wizard, a sample of the chart does not appear.


CAUSE

When you press COMMAND+V, the focus in the dialog box is moved to the "Press and hold to view sample" button. You must then press and hold COMMAND+V to view the sample chart.


RESOLUTION

To use your keyboard to view a sample chart in step 1 of the Chart Wizard, follow these steps:

  1. Press COMMAND+V.

    This moves the focus to the "Press and hold to view sample" button.


  2. Press and hold COMMAND+V.

    A sample chart appears in the dialog box.

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.


MORE INFORMATION

You do not have to be in step 1 of the Chart Wizard to view a sample chart in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition. If you create a chart and want to view a sample of the chart, follow these steps:

  1. Select the chart if it is embedded, or select the chart sheet.


  2. On the Chart menu, click Chart Type.


  3. In the Chart Type dialog box, edit the chart as needed.


  4. Press COMMAND+V to move the focus to the "Press and hold to view sample" button.


  5. Press and hold COMMAND+V to view a sample of the changes.


  6. Click OK or press RETURN.
