SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, if you click Open on the File menu, click Find File, and then search for Microsoft Excel files, the Find File dialog box does not list any files that are saved as either Microsoft Excel templates or Microsoft Excel 2.2 worksheets. CAUSEWhen you search for Microsoft Excel files, the Find File dialog box displays files with file types that are any of the following:
Since the file type of a Microsoft Excel template is sLS8, templates are not listed in the Find File dialog box when
you search for Microsoft Excel files. By the same token, the file type of a
Microsoft Excel 2.2 worksheet is XLS2, so Microsoft Excel 2.2 worksheets
are also not listed in the Find File dialog box.
WORKAROUNDTo search for templates and Microsoft Excel 2.2 worksheets, you must select "All Files" in the File Type list box in the Search dialog box. When you do this, all files, including templates, are listed in the Find File dialog box. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available. Additional query words: XL98
