XL98: New Toolbar Appears to Have No Name

ID: Q180697

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Customize dialog box (click Customize on the Tools menu) to create a new toolbar in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, the new toolbar appears to have no name even though you entered a name in the New Toolbar dialog box.

CAUSE

Because the new toolbar contains no tools, it is too narrow to display the name.

RESOLUTION

If you add at least two tools to the new toolbar, its name begins to appear. If you add four or more tools to the toolbar, the toolbar is wide enough to display its full name.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

To create a new toolbar, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize. Click the Toolbars tab.

  2. Click New. Type a name for the new toolbar, and click OK.

The new toolbar appears on the screen. In Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows, you can see part of the name of the toolbar even if the toolbar contains no tools. In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, you must add two tools to the toolbar before the name appears.

To add tools to a toolbar, click the Commands tab in the Customize dialog box, and then drag tools onto the new toolbar.
