XL98: In-Place Editing Is Not Available

ID: Q181225

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you double-click an embedded object to edit it, the object is opened in the program that created it instead of in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.

MORE INFORMATION

In Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows, if you insert a document from another program into a worksheet, you can edit the embedded document by double-clicking it. When you do this, the document is edited "in place"; you remain in Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows, but the menus and toolbars change so that you can edit the document.

In Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, in-place editing is not available. If you double-click a document that is inserted in a worksheet, the program in which you created the document is activated. You can then edit the document in that program. When you are finished, quit and return to Microsoft Excel.
