SUMMARY
You can import tables from Web pages into Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh
Edition. This article contains information about how to do this.
MORE INFORMATION
Microsoft Excel 98 can interpret tables from Web pages because it can
detect and recognize Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) tags. However, some
HTML tags are ignored by Microsoft Excel 98. The tags that are ignored by
Microsoft Excel 98 are the tags that identify graphics, animation, forms,
or controls, and so on.
You can copy and paste tables from Web pages to Microsoft Excel 98.
Microsoft Excel 98 correctly interprets HTML code from the Clipboard
and creates the table in your worksheet. To do this, follow these steps
- Locate the Web page that contains the table that you want to copy.
- View the source (the HTML code) for the Web page in a text editor.
NOTE: the procedure to view the source is different for different
Web browsers.
For example, to view the source in Microsoft Internet Explorer
version 4.0, click Source on the View menu. This displays the HTML code.
- Select the tags that create the table.
The <TABLE> tag identifies the beginning of the table, and the </TABLE>
tag identifies the end of the table.
- Copy the tags you selected in step 3. (In SimpleText, click Copy on the
Edit menu.)
- Start or switch to Microsoft Excel 98 and create a new workbook or
open an existing workbook in which to paste the table.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
