XL98: How to Use Custom Toolbars in the Excel Toolbars (5) File

ID: Q184363

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade Microsoft Excel 5.0 to Microsoft Excel 98, any built-in toolbar you customize or custom toolbar you create in Microsoft Excel 5.0 does not appear in Microsoft Excel 98.

CAUSE

Microsoft Excel 98 does not convert Microsoft Excel 5.0 toolbars that are stored in the Excel Toolbars (5) file.

RESOLUTION

To use toolbars in the Excel Toolbars (5) file, follow these steps:

  1. Start Microsoft Excel 98.

  2. On the File menu, click Open.

  3. Locate the Excel Toolbars (5) file in the Preferences folder and select it.

  4. Click Open.

Microsoft Excel does not open a workbook but loads the toolbars into random access memory (RAM).

  5. On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click the name of any toolbar you created in Microsoft Excel 5.0.

NOTE: If the Excel Toolbars (5) file contains one of the built-in toolbars, the toolbar name that appears on the Toolbars menu is followed by an asterisk. For example, the Standard toolbar appears as Standard*.

STATUS

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel 98.
