XL98: Cannot Use Scalar Functions in Microsoft Query

ID: Q185370

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition
  • Microsoft Query 98 Macintosh Edition
  • Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you add criteria to the query you are creating in Microsoft Query, you may receive the following error

Unknown Function: <function name>
and your only option is to click OK.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you try to use a scalar function in your criteria. The ability to use scalar functions in a query is dependent on the functionality that is provided by the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver that you are using. However, none of the ODBC drivers that are provided with Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition support the use of scalar functions.

You cannot scalar functions in your query when you use the ODBC drivers that are installed by Microsoft Office 98.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Query 98 Macintosh Edition.

REFERENCES

and then click Show Topics. Select the "Limit the records you retrieve by using criteria" topic, and click Go To. If you are unable to find the information you need, ask the Office Assistant.
