XL98: QuickTime Movie Clipping Hangs System 7.5.3

SYMPTOMS

When you use a drag-and-drop operation to move a clipping from the desktop to a Microsoft Excel 98 workbook, you may experience one of the following symptoms:

  • The system may stop responding (hang).


  • -or-

  • You may receive a "Not Enough Memory" error message:



CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • You are running Mac OS version 7.5.3.


  • -and-

  • You activate the desktop.


  • -and-

  • You use the drag-and-drop feature to move a QuickTime movie clipping from the desktop to an Excel 98 workbook.



WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not activate the desktop before you perform the drag-and-drop operation.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 98 for Macintosh.
