OFF98: Errors Double-Clicking Microsoft Movie Object

SYMPTOMS

When you double-click a Microsoft Movie object in your document, you may receive one of the following error messages:

Microsoft Excel

Cannot start the source application for this object. There may not be enough memory available.

Microsoft Word

Word cannot edit the Microsoft Movie.

Microsoft PowerPoint

The server application, source file, or item can't be found. You should reinstall the server application.

CAUSE

You may receive these error messages if all of the following are true:

• Your document has a Microsoft Movie object embedded in it.


-and-


• You do not have Microsoft Movie installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

In order to successfully activate an embedded Microsoft Movie object in your document, you must have Microsoft Movie installed. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Quit all running Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition programs.



2. Insert your Office 98 compact disc.



3. Open the Value Pack folder on the compact disc.



4. Start the Value Pack Installer.



5. Click the option for Microsoft Movie.



6. Click Install.



7. When the installation is finished, click Quit.

STATUS

This is by design of Microsoft Office 98 programs.

The most likely scenario for this problem to occur is when you previously had Microsoft Office 4.2 installed and you embedded a movie object into your document. Then, you installed Office 98, which does not automatically install Microsoft Movie. This may also occur if you open a file in one of the Office 98 programs and the file was supplied by someone using Office 4.2.
