XL98: Toolbars Disappear After Closing Visual Basic Editor

SYMPTOMS

After you close the Visual Basic Editor in Microsoft Excel 98, all the toolbars disappear except for the worksheet menu bar, which is not functional.


CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

  • You quit the Visual Basic Editor while a user form is running.


  • -and-

  • You close the user form.


After you close the user form, the toolbars will disappear with the exception of the worksheet menu bar, which will not be functional.


WORKAROUND

To prevent this problem from occurring, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Don't Run the Visual Basic Editor and a User Form Simultaneously

Always close the Visual Basic Editor before running a user form or close the user form before quitting the Visual Basic Editor.

Method 2: Hide Microsoft Excel

From Microsoft Excel, click Hide Microsoft Excel on the Application menu.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition.
