SYMPTOMS
When you click the arrow for the Font box in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh
Edition, some of the font names may appear as extended characters and you
will not be able to read the names of the font.
CAUSESome of the font names in the Font list may not be readable (in Excel) or display as _____ (in Word) if you have not registered these programs with the Language Register program in the <hard drive name>:Apple Extras folder. RESOLUTION
To be able to read the names of the foreign language fonts that you have
installed on your computer, you need to register Microsoft Excel and
Microsoft Word with that language. To do this for Excel, follow these
steps:
NOTE: In order to use the foreign language font in your Excel worksheet, you also need to select the foreign language on the Keyboard menu. The font box may display a foreign language font, but the text in the cell may be in English if the keyboard language is set to U.S. STATUSThis is by design of the Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition programs listed at the beginning of this article. With an Apple Language Kit installed on your computer, you can create
documents in a language other than that of your operating system. For
example, you can install the Arabic Language Kit, change the layout of your
keyboard to Arabic, and type Arabic text in any of your Office documents.
