XL98: Row/Column Headers Appear on Dialog Sheet

ID: Q191280

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you copy a dialog sheet, the new dialog sheet contains row and column headers similar to those displayed in worksheets and Microsoft Excel 4.0 macro sheets.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:

  • The workbook has two or more windows visible.

  • -and-

  • The active window is not the first window (for example, the active window's caption does not end in ":1").

WORKAROUND

If you want to create a copy of a dialog sheet and you don't want it to contain row and column headers, make sure that the first window of the workbook is the active window when you copy the dialog sheet.

If you have already copied a dialog sheet and it contains row and column headers, there is no way to remove the row and column headers except by deleting the dialog sheet.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you create a copy of a dialog sheet and it contains row and column headers because the conditions described earlier are true, there is no way to remove the row and column headers from the new dialog sheet. When a dialog sheet is active, the "Row & Column Headers" option on the View tab in the Options dialog box is unavailable.

Note that the presence of the headers does not affect the functionality of the dialog sheet.
