BUG: MS Query Fails Against Oracle Names Server

SYMPTOMS

When using MS Query 97 to access an Oracle server through Oracle Names Server, you get the following error:

[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-00000: normal, successful completion
This error prevents the user from connecting to their Oracle server.


CAUSE

Oracle Names Server has a stack space requirement that is beyond what is allocated by MS Query 97.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next version of Office, Office 2000, which contains a fixed version of MS Query that contains this fix.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
