Excel: RETURN Key Does Not Move Active Cell Down

ID: Q61841

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 2.2, 3.0, 4.0

SUMMARY

Microsoft Excel gives you the choice of moving the selection down when you press the RETURN key (on the main keyboard) or staying in the selected cell when you press RETURN.

To move the selection down when RETURN is pressed:

  1. From the Options menu, choose Workspace.

  2. Choose the Move Selection After Return check box.

NOTE: In the "Microsoft Excel Money Manager" book/disk package by Stephen L. Nelson (Microsoft Press, 1989), the macro for 1040 Workspace turns off the Move Selection After Return option. You will have to turn it back on manually to continue to use the RETURN key to move down in a document.
