Excel: Characters Are Repeated in a Cell
ID: Q64356
|
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 1.x, 2.2, 3.0, 4.0
SUMMARY
When Fill is selected for the Alignment command (on the Format menu),
Microsoft Excel repeats the values or characters within a cell until
the cell is full.
This can cause unexpected behavior if a cell has had this formatting
inadvertently applied. After characters are entered, the cell is
filled with repeats of those characters until it is full.
If this is not the desired formatting, set the alignment attribute to
anything other than Fill, as follows:
- From the Format menu, choose Alignment.
- Select any alignment attribute other than Fill.
- Choose the OK button.
For more information on the Alignment command, see page 228 of the
"Microsoft Excel User's Guide 1" version 4.0 manual. If you are using
version 3.00, see page 186 in the "Microsoft Excel User's Guide"
version 3.0 manual. If you are using Excel 2.20, see page 292 in the
"Microsoft Excel Reference" version 2.2 manual.
