Excel: Button Objects Do Not Appear Three-Dimensional

The entries of "BUTTONFACE=", "BUTTONSHADOW=", and "BUTTONTEXT=" in the [COLORS] section of the Windows 3.00 WIN.INI file can cause buttons placed on the worksheet to appear as an outline. These buttons normally look three-dimensional. The row and column headings should also appear three-dimensional, yet they look blank if these settings are present.

By default, these entries are not present in the WIN.INI file; you must insert these entries. In most cases, these settings will create colors other than gray, which is the default button color in Windows 3.00.

The button-related entries in WIN.INI should be removed if this is a problem. Alternately, the entries can be commented out by inserting a semicolon (;) in the first position of each button-related entry.

BUTTONFACE, BUTTONSHADOW, and BUTTONTEXT entries that duplicate the default Windows colors will allow the buttons in Microsoft Excel to appear normally. These acceptable entries are:

   BUTTONFACE=192 192 192
   BUTTONSHADOW=128 128 128
   BUTTONTEXT=0 0 0
