Minor Tick Marks Do Not Appear on Value Axis in Excel

ID: Q69209

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0

SUMMARY

When you select the value axis and make a change to the Minor Unit box under the Scale command of the Format menu, the changes do not appear to have any effect on the appearance of charts.

MORE INFORMATION

As a default, Microsoft Excel sets the Tick Mark Type for Minor Units under the Patterns command of the Format menu to Invisible if you are using Microsoft Excel version 2.1, and to None if you are using Microsoft Excel version 3.0 or 4.0. When a change is made to the Minor Unit under the Scale command of the Format menu, the change does not appear on the chart because of this formatting.

To show the tick marks on the chart, choose Patterns from the Format menu and set the Minor Tick Mark Type to either Inside, Outside, or Cross.
