Excel: Dates Formatted with mmm Display Incorrectly

SUMMARY

Microsoft Excel uses information from the itl1 resource of the System file to display abbreviated date formats. If the itl1 resource has been modified to display more than three letters for an abbreviated date, Excel will use that many letters to display the name of the month when a cell has a number format "mmm".

As a result, the date CDEV (control panel device) shipped with TMaker's WriteNow, which modifies the itl1 System resource even after the CDEV has been removed from the System, may cause Excel's abbreviated dates to display incorrectly. To reset the System resource, you must either use the same CDEV to change the date abbreviations back, or use some resource editor to specify that the number of characters used to abbreviate a month in the itl1 resource is three.
