Excel: Removing the Most Recently Opened Files from File Menu

ID: Q75547

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 3.0, 4.0
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, version 3.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, the four most recently opened documents are listed at the bottom of the File menu. However, you may not want these to display. To keep the file list from appearing in the File menu, create and run the following macro:

   A1: =DELETE.COMMAND(GET.BAR(),1,"file list")
   A2  =RETURN()
You can remove any menu command from a Microsoft Excel menu with the DELETE.COMMAND function, including the recently opened files list.

To remove the list of recently opened files from the Window menu, substitute "window list" for "file list" in the above example of the DELETE.COMMAND function.
