Excel: SUBSCRIBER Function Cannot Be Entered in Formula Bar

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, the SUBSCRIBER function can be entered onto a worksheet only by choosing the Subscribe To command from the Edit menu or by copying and pasting from other cells. It cannot be entered or modified in the Microsoft Excel formula bar. If you attempt to modify an existing SUBSCRIBER function, Microsoft Excel will display the error message: "Function is not valid."

Publishing and subscribing is a feature of Macintosh System 7.0 that allows different applications to share portions of their documents. A System 7.0 compatible application can publish an edition of itself that can be updated at any time. Microsoft Excel uses the SUBSCRIBER function to obtain information from published editions. Microsoft Excel can also publish editions for access by other applications.
