XL: Files Whose Names Begin with "Start" Automatically Opened

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.x, 3.x, 4.x, 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for OS/2, versions 2.2, 3.0


SUMMARY

When you launch Microsoft Excel, if there are any Microsoft Excel files (workbooks, worksheets, charts, etc.) whose names begin with the letters "Start" and that are stored in the same directory with the Microsoft Excel executable (Excel.exe), the files will automatically be opened by Microsoft Excel.

NOTE: This feature does not exist in Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows.


MORE INFORMATION

This feature applies to all files that have any of the following extensions:


   XLS   XLC   XLM   XLA   XLW 


If there is more than one file in the directory whose name begins with the letters "Start", the files will all open in the order that they were saved to the directory.
