Excel 4.0: Command+Option+E Gives "Invalid Database" Error

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel 4.0 of the Macintosh, when you install the Crosstab ReportWizard to version 4.0 of Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, and you press COMMAND+OPTION+E (or CONTROL+E on an enhanced keyboard), Microsoft Excel will attempt to start the Crosstab ReportWizard, and you will receive one of the following error messages:

If a database is not defined, the following error message will appear:

Invalid Database or Database not open.
If a database has been defined, the following message appears:
Invalid Argument.
Also, if COMMAND+OPTION+E is assigned to a command macro, you will not be able to run the macro with the key command when the Crosstab add-in is loaded.

WORKAROUNDS

To work around this problem, do either of the following:

  • Use another letter for the command macro.

    -or-


  • Do the following to remove the Crosstab ReportWizard from the Add-In Manager Startup list so that the Crosstab ReportWizard is not loaded or installed with the Add-In Manager:

    1. From the Options menu, choose Add-Ins.


    2. Select the Crosstab ReportWizard.


    3. Choose Remove.


    4. Choose the OK button to confirm your choice.


    5. Choose the Close button.
