Excel: Cannot Cancel Add Open File in Workbook

ID: Q87421

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SUMMARY

In version 4.0 of Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, you can add unopened files to a workbook by choosing the Add button on the Workbook Contents page, and then choosing the Open button. However, once a file is selected for opening, you cannot keep the file from being loaded.

(That is, you cannot cancel the command to load the file by pressing COMMAND+PERIOD or ESC key.)

MORE INFORMATION

When you choose a file to be opened in the Open dialog box, pressing COMMAND+PERIOD or ESC cancels the current procedure. In this case, however, the ESC key is held by the Add to Workbook dialog box and is not turned into a message to cancel the procedure until the file has finished loading.
