Excel: Floating Toolbars Not Displaying Correctly

ID: Q88981

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SUMMARY

Floating toolbars may not display correctly in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh version 4.0 if both the Status Bar and the Formula Bar are not displayed on the screen. The floating toolbar will be drawn behind the active worksheet until Microsoft Excel has to redraw any window (resizing the active window, opening a new document, opening a new window of the active document, and so forth). Once a window has been redrawn, the toolbar appears correctly. To keep the toolbar from being hidden behind the active document, the Status Bar and/or the Formula Bar must be turned on.

Note: Scrolling through the active document or switching to other applications will not bring the toolbar to the front.

To display the Status Bar or the Formula Bar:

  1. From the Options menu, choose Workspace.

  2. Select the Status Bar checkbox and/or the Formula Bar checkbox. Be sure at least one of these is checked.

  3. Choose the OK button.

This information does not apply to docked toolbars.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information here as it becomes available.
