Excel: Proportionally Resizing Freehand Drawing Objects

ID: Q89174

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 4.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, graphic objects can be proportionally resized by holding down the SHIFT key while dragging a corner handle; however, this does not apply to freehand drawing objects.

MORE INFORMATION

When dragging a corner handle of a fixed drawing object such as a rectangle or oval, the object can be resized with the same proportions as the original by holding down the SHIFT key. Holding the SHIFT key has no effect on a freehand drawing object such as a polygon or freehand line.

To proportionally resize a freehand drawing object:

  1. Create a rectangle or oval.

  2. Select both the freehand object and the new object using the Selection tool.

  3. Group the two objects using the Group tool.

  4. Resize the grouped objects while holding down the SHIFT key.

  5. Ungroup the two objects, and delete the rectangle or oval.

For more information on creating and resizing graphic objects see Chapter 15, "Working with Graphic Objects," in the "Microsoft Excel User's Guide 1," version 4.0.
