The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 2.2, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, the tutorial requires HyperCard because it is a HyperCard stack. If HyperCard is not installed on the Macintosh, one of the following error messages may be generated when trying to run the Excel tutorial:

<Tutorial name> could not be opened, the application is busy or missing. (System 6.0x)
-OR-
<Tutorial name> could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found. (System 7.0x)

MORE INFORMATION

The error messages noted above are system error messages, and are common to any stack if HyperCard is not present.

HyperCard comes on the Macintosh System Software disks that come with every Macintosh. (Hypercard does not ship with system 7.0.1.) If these disks are unavailable, HyperCard can be obtained from any Apple dealer. Contact your Apple representative for further assistance on installing or using HyperCard.

In Microsoft Excel 4.0, the tutorial is two separate files, entitled "Learning Microsoft Excel" and "Introducing Microsoft Excel." The tutorial for Microsoft Excel 3.0 is the "Microsoft Excel Tutorial." In Microsoft Excel 2.2, the tutorial is called "Microsoft Excel Tour."
