SUMMARY
Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh is shipped with an add-in macro
called the Data Access Macro. This macro allows Microsoft Excel to use
Apple Computer's Data Access Language (DAL) extension. You can use
this macro to access data from external databases and transfer query
results to Microsoft Excel worksheets or separate files.

If you are using the Data Access Macro, you need the following to
perform a successful query to an external database:
- The Data Access Macro. This macro is available with all versions of Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh versions 2.2 and later. The Data Access Macro does not work with versions of Microsoft Excel earlier than version 2.2. - The DAL system extension. This system extension is provided by Apple Computer. (Microsoft Excel version 2.2 shipped with a version of the DAL system extension which can be installed by running the CL/1 installer.) NOTE: The Data Access Macro does not come standard on the Academic version of Microsoft Excel, but may be obtained from Microsoft Customer Service at (800) 426-9400. - The Data Access software provided by Apple Computer. This software must be installed on the external database server. - Network connections from the Macintosh to the external database server.
