XL: PRINT() Command Limited with Certain Printers

ID: Q98608

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 2.x, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 2.2, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel, the feed argument to the PRINT() command is limited to continuous or cut-sheet feed. When you print to a printer that has additional feed options, you may not be able to use the PRINT() function to choose those additional options in a macro.

WORKAROUND

To select additional feed options other those that are associated with continuous or cut-sheet feed on printers, use the PRINT?() form of the function. The PRINT?() function displays the Print dialog box which allows you to use the additional feed choices.

NOTE: In Microsoft Excel for Windows, you can also use the SEND.KEYS() function with the appropriate keystrokes to automate this process if you don't want the dialog box to appear.
