The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMS
When you import an existing Web from a disk-based Web that contains a
navigational structure, the navigational structure is not imported
and appears to be lost.
CAUSE
The Import Wizard only imports existing content and regenerates files
required for the FrontPage Server Extensions. The Import Wizard does not import the file that contains the
navigational structure, because it contains configuration information.
RESOLUTION
Method 1: If You Can Open the Disk-Based Web in FrontPage
To resolve this behavior, open the disk-based Web in FrontPage, and
then publish the Web under a new name on the Personal Web Server. This
regenerates the navigational structure information.
Method 2: If You Cannot Open the Disk-Based Web in FrontPage
NOTE: This information concerns copy to the _vti_pvt directory. This
directory is not normally accessed during FrontPage operations. These
steps are not supported at this time.
- Start FrontPage.
- On the File menu, point to New, and click FrontPage Web.
- Click Import An Existing Web. Enter a title for your Web. Select the Add to Current Web check box. Click OK.
- Start Windows Explorer. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs
and then click Windows Explorer.
- Open the _vti_pvt folder in the folder that contains the original
Web.
- Right-click the Structure.cnf file and click Copy on the menu that
appears.
- Open the content root folder on the Web server.
The default locations of the content root are shown in the following
table.
Server Content Root Folder
----------------------------------------------------------------
Internet Information Server c:\InetPub\wwwroot\
Peer Web Services c:\InetPub\wwwroot\
Microsoft Personal Web Server c:\WebShare\wwwroot\
FrontPage Personal Web Server c:\FrontPage Webs\content\
- Find the folder you created with the Import Web Wizard in steps 1-3.
- Right-click the _vti_pvt folder, and then click Paste on the menu
that appears.
If you receive a message asking whether you want to overwrite the
existing file, click Yes.
- Switch to FrontPage and press F5.
The original navigation structure appears.
