This article describes how to create a registration Web page. A
registration Web page requires user registration and authorization. It
allows you to restrict or monitor access to your Web pages.

To allow a registered user access to your Web, you can set up a
registration form in the <Root Web> and create a protected Web. The <Root Web> is created automatically when you install the FrontPage Server Extensions on your server. The <Root Web> acts as a gatekeeper to the protected Web, because it forces users to register before they access your Web. The protected Web allows only registered users to access it.
You can set up a registration form on the <Root Web> only. You
cannot set one on another Web.
NOTE: Windows NT security, Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), and
Microsoft Personal Web Server do not allow registration through a Web

Creating the Registration Form
To create a Registration form, follow these steps:
- Start FrontPage and create a new web.
- On the File menu, point to New, and click New Page.
- Click the General tab, and click to select the User Registration page from the list.
- Save the page.
- Publish the web to a root web on a web server.
Create a Protected Web
To create a protected web, follow these steps:
- Start FrontPage and create a new web.
- Publish this web as a sub-web to a server that supports self-registration.
- Open the Sub-Web on the server.
- On the File menu, click Open Web
- Type the URL address of the sub-web, and click Open
- On the Tools menu, point to Security, and click Permissions.
- Click the User Tab.
- Click to select "Only registered users have browse access" and click Apply.
- Click OK.
Note: If you open the root web that contains the registration form , the Component Errors Summary in the Report view will list any problems with the registration functionality.
