SYMPTOMSWhen you use FrontPage to open a read-only file from a web server, you receive more than one password prompt. Password prompts may continue even after you have chosen to open the file as read-only. CAUSE
Each time FrontPage makes a separate request to the server for a file that FrontPage can edit, you will be prompted for a user name and password, unless you have already connected to the server with a valid user name and password. Examples
In Active Server Pages, virtual includes (<!--#include...) will increase the number prompts if the file that is included is linked to files which FrontPage can edit. FrontPage include components will increase the number of password prompts once for the page you have included and once for each file that is linked to from the include file which FrontPage can edit. RESOLUTION
After you are prompted to open the page as read-only, click Cancel to each user name and password prompt. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. Additional query words: front page
