FP2000: Dialog Box Appears if Updating Hyperlinks with a Page Open in Html View

ID: Q219606

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

SYMPTOMS

If you have a page open in HTML view and programmatically rename a file, you may receive a dialog box that states:

FrontPage is unable to update hyperlinks in documents which are being edited in HTML view. The following documents are currently in HTML view:
The dialog box lists all pages open in HTML view.

The dialog box will stop your automation until you click OK to the dialog box, and any hyperlinks in the pages will not be updated.

CAUSE

If a page is open in HTML view, it is assumed that you are manually editing the page. FrontPage will not attempt to change anything on the page, including hyperlinks when it is open in this view.

WORKAROUND

If you are automating the process of renaming pages and you want hyperlinks to be automatically updated (and you want to avoid this dialog box) it is suggested that you switch all open pages to Normal view, or close the page before renaming it.
