SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to open a page that you created in FrontPage 2000, the following message appears in the Preview pane:
Preview not available.
CAUSE
This problem may be caused by one of the following conditions:
- You saved the page in FrontPage 2000.
Office products other than FrontPage have the option to save a Windows Metafile preview, named Preview.wmf, when you save a document as an HTML page. The Preview pane of the Open File dialog box displays the Preview.wmf file.
-or-
- The Preview.wmf file that was created by the Office product has been moved or deleted.
When an Office product saves a page as an HTML file, it creates a folder that contains embedded images and the Preview.wmf file. If the Preview.wmf file has been moved or deleted, FrontPage cannot display the preview in the Preview pane.
RESOLUTIONMethod 1: If You Saved the Page in FrontPage 2000
If you saved the page in FrontPage 2000 but you want it to show a preview
in the Preview pane of the Open File dialog box, you need to recreate the page in another Microsoft Office 2000 product, such as Word 2000, and then follow these steps:
- On the File menu, click Properties.
- Select the Save preview picture check box, and click OK.
- On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
- After you save your page, import the file and folder into your web in FrontPage.
Method 2: If You Moved or Deleted the Preview.wmf File
If the Preview.wmf file has been moved or deleted, you need to resave your page. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the page in the originating Office 2000 application.
- On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
- Name the file a different name.
NOTE: If you do not change the name of this file, it will not regenerate the preview file.
- In FrontPage 2000, re-import the file and folder that you created in step 3.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed
at the beginning of this article.
