FP2000: Publishing to FTP Location Via Proxy

SYMPTOMS
When you use File Transfer Protocol(FTP) to publish through a proxy server, you may receive the following error:
Could not find a web server at <ftp.location>. Please check to make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly. If you are sure that everything is correct, the web server may be temporarily out of service.
CAUSE
FrontPage 2000 needs the FTP protocol specified for publishing purposes.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use the method appropriate to your situation:
With Internet Explorer 5.0 Installed
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- In the Options dialog box, click Proxy Settings.
- In the Internet Properties dialog box, click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
- Click Advanced.
- Click to clear the "Use the Same Proxy Server for all Protocols" check box
- In the FTP and Port boxes, specify the protocol, the FTP server location, and the port number.
For Example:
ftp://<server location>:21
- Click OK four times.
With Internet Explorer 4.0 Installed
- On the Windows Start menu, point to Settings, and click Control Panel. Double-click Internet Options.
- Click the Connection tab.
- Click Advanced.
- Click to clear the "Use the Same Proxy Server for all Protocols" check box.
- In the FTP and Port boxes, specify the protocol, the FTP server location, and the port number.
For Example:
ftp://<server location>:21
- Click OK twice.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
