FP2000: Custom Confirmation Component Returns Field Name if Called by Save to Database Form

ID: Q225200

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you use a FrontPage Confirmation Component on a custom confirmation page which was called by a Save to Database form handler, the Confirmation Component will only show the field name, but not the field values from the submitted form.

CAUSE

A custom confirmation page must be parsed by shtml.dll to expand the component into the field value, but shtml.dll has not parsed the component, because it was located on an Active Server Page (ASP). SHTML explicitly prohibits parsing of ASP files in the interest of security.

RESOLUTION

Do not specify a confirmation page and the server extensions will create one on for you.

If you wish to format the confirmation page differently, you must edit the FP_FormConfirmation function within the _fpclass/fpformdb.inc file. Any errors produced by editing this function may need to be corrected by reinstalling the product.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
