FP2000: FrontPage 98 Server Extensions Do Not Support Applying External Style sheet to Multiple Files

ID: Q233111

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

SUMMARY

When you try to apply a Style sheet Link to a group of files on a server-based web running the FrontPage 98 Server Extensions, you see the following error.

The FrontPage Server Extensions installed on server '<your server name here>' are too old to handle the current version of the ApplyStyleSheet request.

MORE INFORMATION

You can use the FrontPage 98 Server Extensions to apply a style sheet link to an individual file that is open in Page view. You will only see this error when you apply the style sheet link in one of the following three scenarios.

  • Using the All Files option of the Link StyleSheet dialog box

  • Using the Selected File(s) option of the Link StyleSheet dialog box from within any view other than Page view

  • Applying a linked style sheet to a file that does not have an HTM, HTML, SHTM, STM, SHTML, HTX or HTT file extension

FrontPage 98 Server Extensions will manage hyperlinks into CSS files. No link management functionality is lost.

To get full functionality of this feature, upgrade the server to the FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions. If you are do not want or you are unable to upgrade the server extensions, you may open each file you want the CSS link applied to in Page view and apply the StyleSheet Link there.
