FP2000: Error Message Using JuniorNet with a Web Server

SYMPTOMS

After you install JuniorNet on your computer, you may receive the following error message when you try to create a web on a Web server on your local computer:

The server sent a response which FrontPage could not parse. If you are trying to connect to a FrontPage Server, check with the server's administrator to make sure the FrontPage Server Extensions are installed properly.
When you try to open a web on your local computer, you receive the following message:
The folder 'http://localhost' isn't accessible. The folder may be located on an unavailable volume or protected with a password.

NOTE: Depending on the HTTP location that you type, the error message may be different. For example, the loopback address (127.0.0.1), the computer's IP address, or the computer name may appear instead of localhost. Also, if you try to access a subweb, the path that you typed appears in the message.

If you examine the wecerr.txt file, you see the same error message as when you try to create a new web.


CAUSE

JuniorNet installs a client-side firewall to prevent Internet access. This firewall effectively stops requests from properly routing to the application.

To use the Web server on your computer, you can disable the firewall.

WARNING: By disabling the firewall, anyone, including the intended users of JuniorNet (ages 3 through 12), will be able to freely access the Internet by using a Web browser. You may want to re-enable the firewall of JuniorNet after you are finished using the Web server.

To disable the firewall if you are using Windows 98

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information.


  2. On the Tools menu, click System Configuration Utility.


  3. Click the System.ini tab.


  4. Double-click 386Enh to expand the section.


  5. Click to clear the check box in front of the line:


    6. device=C:\PROGRA~1\JUNIOR~1\JRFRWALL.VXD
  6. Click OK.


  7. When prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.


To disable the firewall if you are using Windows 95

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.


  2. In the Open box, type system.ini, and then click OK.


  3. In the [386Enh] section of the System.ini file, find the line that reads:


    4. device=C:\PROGRA~1\JUNIOR~1\JRFRWALL.VXD
  4. Change the line to read:


    5. ; device=C:\PROGRA~1\JUNIOR~1\JRFRWALL.VXD
  5. On the File menu, click Save.


  6. On the File menu, click Exit and restart your computer.
