FP2000: ASP Pages Cannot Be Parent Nodes in a Navigation Structure

ID: Q234653

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft FrontPage 2000 does not allow ASP files to be parent nodes in a navigation structure.

CAUSE

When you work with Navigation view in Microsoft FrontPage 2000, you cannot add child pages to any ASP page that participates in a navigation structure. However, you can make ASP pages child pages of HTM files.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, temporarily rename your ASP files with a .htm file name extension, add them to the navigation structure, and then rename them so that they have a .asp file name extension again. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Switch to Folder view.

  2. Locate the ASP file or files to which you plan to add child nodes.

  3. Rename the page or pages with a .htm file name extension.

  4. Switch to Navigation view.

  5. Position the pages where you want them in the Navigation view.

  6. After the navigation structure is complete, rename the pages so that they have a .asp file name extension again.

NOTE: If you need to make a change to the navigation structure, for instance, move one ASP page to a different parent node, you must follow these steps again.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
