FP98: Navigation Bars Do Not Appear on the Home Page

ID: Q175790

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

In the FrontPage Editor, when you insert a navigation bar in a shared border region, the navigation bar on the home page may not appear when you open the page in a Web browser.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the properties of the navigation bar are configured for a setting that does not apply to the position of the page within the navigational structure. For example, this problem will occur if the navigation bar properties are set to display pages of the same level, but the home page is located at a different level within the Web. It will also occur if the navigation bar properties are set to display pages at the parent level because the home page cannot have a parent page.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, insert the navigation bar in an area of the page that is not in the shared border and then configure the navigation bar properties to display pages located at the correct level. To do this, start FrontPage Editor and follow these steps:

  1. On the File menu, click Open. Select your home page.

  2. Click anywhere in the body of the page, but not within the shared border region.

  3. On the Insert menu, click Navigation Bar.

  4. In the Hyperlinks To Include section, select the option that corresponds to the position of your home page within your FrontPage Web.

  5. Click OK

NOTE: When you insert a navigation bar within the shared border region of a page, the navigation bar will appear on all pages that have the shared border region.
